Our Mission is to honor
the guidelines set forth by Slow Food International, a
robust, active, not-for-profit movement that protects
taste, culture, and the environment as universal social
values. This organization is dedicated to the preservation
and enjoyment of traditional and artisanal foods. Carlo
Petrini founded Slow Food as a response to the opening
of a McDonald’s in Rome’s historic Piazza
Spagna in 1986. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide
movement, active in 50 countries, and supported by a membership
of 80,000. Our Purpose
in supporting Slow Food USA is to recognize the need
to promote food traditions that are part of our cultural
identity, be cautious caretakers of our land, and offer
respect and support for local artisans who grow, produce,
market, prepare, and serve wholesome foods.
We Also Support and Promote
- Educational events and public outreach which encourages
the enjoyment of pure foods that are local, seasonal,
and organically grown
- Protect biodiversity for today’s communities
and future generations
- Identification, promotion, and protection of economically
and ecologically fragile animals, plants, fruits,
and vegetables.
